Bush Announces Missouri’s 2021 FEMA Funeral Assistance Funding, Urges Constituents to Apply
ST. LOUIS, MO — Today, Congresswoman Cori Bush (MO-01), announced the total funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the state of Missouri to help St. Louis and our neighbors cover the costs associated with COVID-19 funerals. The Congresswoman is urging her constituents to utilize the assistance offered by the program, which is funded as part of the American Rescue Plan that the Congresswoman helped secure earlier this year.
As of December 6, 2021, a total of 4,384 awards were granted, amounting to a total of $27,587,860 in FEMA funding. This service is completely free, and any resident of St. Louis is able to apply if eligible.
“Every single person in this country should be able to live and pass on with dignity,” said Congresswoman Bush. “Particularly after such a uniquely difficult year, the last thing any grieving family in St. Louis should need to think about is how to cover the cost of saying goodbye to their loved ones. FEMA’s funeral assistance funding is an incredible support system for so many in our community. When we talk about legislating with love, especially in the wealthiest country on earth, we are talking about giving every human being the tools and resources to bury their family without financial hardship. I am urging my neighbors in St. Louis: if you can use this help, please apply, and feel free to reach out to my office for any assistance.”
Since January 20, 2021, FEMA has provided over $1.47 billion to more than 226,000 people to assist with COVID- 19-related funeral costs.
