Bush Helps Pass Bipartisan Water Resources Development Act, Advances $90 Million for St. Louis

WASHINGTON D.C.—   Today, Congresswoman Cori Bush (MO-01), voted in support of H.R. 7776, the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2022. Congresswoman Bush secured new environmental infrastructure authority for Missouri’s First Congressional District in the bill, which authorizes $90 million for safe wastewater and drinking water systems in St. Louis County and St. Louis City.

This bipartisan legislation would provide funding for critical investments in the United States’ aquatic infrastructure such as ports, inland waterways, flood management systems, ecosystems, and environmental protection.

In total Congresswoman Bush secured four environmental infrastructure projects in the Water Resources and Development Act of 2022:

  1. St. Louis City — Drinking Water Infrastructure Improvements: Authorizes $25 million request for drinking water supply improvements including lead pipes. The purpose of this project is to provide support for lead remediation and ensure safe drinking water is accessible across the city of St. Louis.

  2. St. Louis County — Drinking Water Infrastructure Improvements: Authorizes $25 million request for drinking water supply improvements including lead pipes. The purpose of this project is to provide support for lead remediation and ensure safe drinking water is accessible across St. Louis County.

  3. St. Louis City — Wastewater Infrastructure Improvements: Authorizes $20 million for wastewater supply improvements including flood control in the City of St. Louis. The purpose of this project is to improve sanitation, mitigate flooding, and provide assistance for capital improvements and repairs.

  4. St. Louis County — Wastewater Infrastructure Improvements: Authorizes $20 million for wastewater supply improvements including flood control in St. Louis County. The purpose of this project is to improve sanitation, mitigate flooding, and provide assistance for capital improvements and repairs.

WRDA’S investments represent a step in the right direction in addressing environmental and water inequality in communities nationwide and in St. Louis. Growing up near Coldwater Creek, Congresswoman Bush has seen the uncertainty of health and safety in contaminated water — leading to the introduction of H.R. 7879, the Coldwater Creek Signage Act to require signage about the dangers of toxic contaminants found in the creek.
