Congresswoman Bush Celebrates Announcement of Signage Installations along Coldwater Creek

This win comes two years after Bush’s Coldwater Creek Signage Act

Washington, D.C. (September 24, 2024) — Congresswoman Cori Bush (MO-01) released the following statement regarding the announcement from the Army Corps that they will be installing signage along Coldwater Creek. This announcement comes nearly two years after Congresswoman Bush introduced the Coldwater Creek Signage Act.

“After years of pushing, alongside the community and in collaboration with the EPA, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the announcement of November’s installation of signage along Coldwater Creek marks a crucial victory in our fight for public health and safety in our community,” said Congresswoman Bush. “Posting signs along the Creek, particularly at public access points, is a vital first step in reducing harm and ensuring that our neighbors throughout the St. Louis region are aware of radioactive contamination caused by Coldwater Creek. This effort is an important milestone in continuing to raise awareness of the dangers, and also in our work to secure the full cleanup and remediation of radioactive waste dumped into our communities through the Manhattan Project.”

In May 2022, Congresswoman Bush introduced the Coldwater Creek Signage Act  which would require signage to be posted along Coldwater Creek informing residents of the dangers of radioactive waste exposure. Since then, the Congresswoman and her office have continuously met with the EPA Region 7 and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to continue her push for warning signs to be placed along the creek.
