Congresswoman Cori Bush Commends St. Louis County Efforts to Keep People Housed
ST. LOUIS, MO — Today, Congresswoman Cori Bush (MO-01), released a statement after St. Louis County Executive Sam Page signed a new eviction moratorium order, following a vote by the County Council. The order, which will go into effect in two weeks, will give the county the additional time it needs to distribute the nearly $27 million it received in emergency rental assistance (ERAP) funds. So far, the county has distributed more than $9.5 million of these life-saving funds and is on track to reach $17 million by the end of the month.
“I am grateful to Dr. Sam Page, Councilwoman Rita Days and the St. Louis County Council for their efforts to ensure thousands of our neighbors in St. Louis County are protected from the violence of eviction,” said Congresswoman Cori Bush. “The eviction emergency is an urgent public health crisis. With the Delta variant surging, it is crucial that individuals and families can stay safely in their homes for the duration of this pandemic and beyond. It is critical that we work to connect tenants and landlords with the federal resources available to them. It is critical that local governments act to keep our St. Louis community housed, and I applaud the County’s efforts to quickly get these funds to the people who desperately need them. As someone who knows the trauma of receiving an eviction notice on your door, I am urging my colleagues in Congress to support a permanent legislative solution to this crisis.”
